Project Duff Offer Getter 8

Like this, but with possibly even more butt.
Had an ambush nap which threw off my whole post-work schedule, so today I’m going to plug someone else’s project before bed.
The pic above is actually my quickie rendition of a poster available from the kind people that make Islands in the Sky, an indie comedy/sci-fi comic that I learned about when I went to Wondercon.
I briefly met the writer, Joseph Wong, and I actually went to school with the artist, Genevieve Tsai (though I’m not sure she knows this –I’m not that memorable). They’re really nice, and Genevieve is a kick-ass figure artist. You can see more of her work at http://charicreatures.com/
The book has a lot of gag nudity, so while I totally recommend it, you probably don’t want to pick up a copy for your 10-year-old nephew*. There’s just the one issue at the moment. Looking forward to seeing new material as it becomes available.
Oh, and yeah. I bought that poster. Don’t judge me.

Still a’ drawin’. Had a minor breakthrough in my hand-construction knowledge– I was guilty of making the peak of the knuckle joints line up vertically with the crease on the underside, and that doesn’t actually happen. At least, not on my hands. I’m not saying I actually did that correctly in the drawings today, but I am saying that I recognize it’s a problem.
Well, I have work in the morning. More tomorrow.

Ponk.
Sadly, these were the only two foreshortened hands I was willing to post today, but it was good from a learning perspective. Not as good from an execution perspective. Still, it’s progress. Gonna check back in on my drawings of hands at the end of the month and see how much they’ve improved.
Aspiring and lazy art school attendees take note: you can easily graduate from an illustration program without mastering this at all! At least apparently. I clearly did, and I was on the Dean’s List. I can’t help but think that someone should have been a littler harsher in their critiques if I made it through my BFA and got scholastic accolades for such crappy foreshortening. I hate you, Academy.

Nono from Gunbuster2/Diebuster, which rocks. Was only moderately interested through Gunbuster, but Gunbuster 2 did such a good job of merging the events of both series, I ended up loving both. Anyway, note the actually completed hands. Not wonky this time. Maybe a touch sparse in the detail department, but meh.

No breasts this time, but parallels can still be drawn. I gotta try something new.
Had an awful day, but I just capped it with probably the best mountains I’ve ever drawn. They clearly need some work; values could be pushed more, for example, but I’m actually really happy with this. Sorry, no expanded view – this is 100%.
Anyway, only about 40 minutes of drawing tonight. I don’t have the energy for any more. More tomorrow.
